چکیده

Background Ventricular volumetrics play a fundamental role in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging analysis. Accuracy is of course paramount, and thus crucial that the image data set is precise. This poster defines the correct positioning of the short axis (SA) cinematographic images, and the rationale behind it. Since most volume studies concentrate on the left ventricle (LV) slice positioning focuses on the mitral valve annulus.

Feasibility of single breath-hold left ventricular function with 3 Tesla TSENSE acquisition and 3D modeling analysis

BACKGROUND A single breath-hold evaluation of ventricular function would allow assessment in cases where scan time or patient tolerance is limited. Spatiotemporal acceleration techniques such as TSENSE decrease cardiovascular MR acquisition time, but standard slice summation analysis requires enough short axis slices to cover the left ventricle (LV). By reducing the number of short axis slices,...

Effects of slice orientation on reproducibility of sequential assessment of right ventricular volumes and ejection fraction: short-axis vs transverse SSFP cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND Test-retest reproducibility is of utmost importance in follow-up of right ventricular (RV) volumes and function; optimal slice orientation though is not yet known. We compared test-retest reproducibility and intra-/inter-observer variability of right ventricular (RV) volumes and function assessed with short-axis and transverse cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). METHODS Eighte...

Comparison of long and short axis quantification of left ventricular volume parameters by cardiovascular magnetic resonance, with ex-vivo validation

BACKGROUND The purpose of the study was to compare the accuracy and evaluation time of quantifying left ventricular (LV), left atrial (LA) volume and LV mass using short axis (SAX) and long axis (LAX) methods when using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied 12 explanted canine hearts and 46 patients referred for CMR (29 male, age 47 ± 18 years) in a clinica...

Modified RV short axis series--a new method for cardiac MRI measurement of right ventricular volumes.

PURPOSE The current standard image orientation employed in the MRI assessment of right ventricular volumes uses a series of short axis cine acquisitions located with respect to a horizontal long axis view with the first slice placed across the atrio-ventricular valve plane at end diastole. Inherent inaccuracies are encountered with the use of this image orientation due to difficulty in defining...

Reproducibility of short axis slice locations in longitudinal cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) studies

Background Longitudinal dynamic changes of myocardial ischemic injury determine left ventricular (LV) remodelling. Using conventional clinical cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, the registration of short axis (SA) images for comparison of imaging findings at different time points is aided by the application of the same protocol to consistently identify the atrio-ventricular (AV) g...
